The T-Bird Mount

The team from Nexon America has provided us with this info on the T-Bird a mount only available to players from July 16th until July 23rd.

From July 16 to July 23, Nexon is making available the Thunderbird, a flying mount of rare beauty with dashing blue feathers that appear soaked in the indigo sky of Iria.

There is a fascinating legend concerning the Thunder Bird–namely, that lightning strikes from its sharp beak and thunder roars when it flaps its wings. For many years, Thunder Birds were regarded only as creatures of wonder, leaving little else known to the public.

See, Mabinogi has a very simple yet deep system for customizing your avatar. Basically, there are a few standard faces, eyes, and mouths that you would have in most MMOs. But then you can set age and, as I have commented in another blog, gain weight.

But the REAL money maker in Mabinogi are its clothes.There are so many ways to get them, and so many ways to tweak them to your style.

Digging Into the Item Shop

MMORPG.com Mabinogi Correspondent Beau Turkey writes this look at item shops in free 2 play MMOs with specific reference to Nexon’s Mabinogi.

In the cash shop world, it is accepted that many players spend money on virtual items. It is discussed here and there, and in some games is talked about as though the items might be "unfair," but overall the attitude is "anyone can do it, so be it…"

Mabinogi is no different. I spend a great deal of time in the game, and players rarely even discuss the cash shop… at least in the populated towns and in discussions with me. Granted, they could be staging protests that I am not invited to, but I doubt it. Most players are simply playing the game.

Why is it that most players (in cash shop games) don’t worry so much about those players that spend real life money on items, while players in non-cash shop games seem to speak of the cash shop as though it is the end of the world?

Substance Over Flash

Graphics are a funny thing. Discussing what good graphics are, and why a player prefers them, is a lot like discussing art. After all, everyone has an opinion and there can be no "right" or "wrong," just preferences.

Some players tend to like more "realistic" looking games like Vanguard, Everquest2 or Lord of the Rings Online. Others lean towards "cartoony" or cel-shaded games like Dream of Mirror Online or Maple Story. Then there are games like Mabinogi that show off a style that can be semi-realistic and very cartoony all in the same world.

The question is, do you allow graphics to make or break a game for you? Does it need to look like real life to feel authentic, or do you need bright colors and big explosions to help you have a good time?

Pioneers of Iria Launches

Nexon has announced the release of Pioneers of Iria, the latest expansion for Mabinogi.

1. New Rebirth System

You can now rebirth for FREE when your character is older than 20! We have introduced a new Rebirth System which allows characters who are 20 years of age or older to rebirth to reset their age, character level and exploration level. Paid rebirth through character card purchases can be done once a week compared to three weeks of the previous rebirth system and cosmetic or gender changes will only be possible through paid rebirth.

2. New Continent

Iria has come and there are many adventures for you to experience. Go to base Quilla Base Camp as a human explorer and seek Physis, the Frozen Tundra of the Giants, or face the Arid Sands of Filia, where the Elves dwell.

The Next Generation of Mabinogi

Generation 3 updates mainstream story line, adds weddings, new quests and improved pet functionality to Mabinogi.

Spirit Weapons and New Pets

Nexon has announced the addition of the Spirit Weapon System and several new pets to Mabinogi.

Los Angeles, CA – July 25, 2008 – Nexon America Inc. is adding some spirit to Mabinogi, the sensational free-to-play MMORPG, with the new Spirit Weapon system, as well as a variety of new and helpful pets. These new options enhance the already exceptionally deep game play found within Mabinogi.

The Spirit Weapon system offers players a more powerful weapon, but also requires some TLC. These weapons host a spirit, which requires conversation, food and guidance. As players chat, feed and guide the spirit, it grows stronger. Increasing the spirit’s in-game stats, helps players attack with this weapon and do more damage to foes.

Mabinogi welcomes seven new pets to its world – a cow, white sheep, white flame spider, herb pig and three new dogs, Border Collies, Miniature Pinschers and Samoyeds. The new pets can collect and offer items to assist owners. Cows can acquire milk and sheep can gather wool to assist the owner. With a little work, spiders can assist with the collection of cobwebs and herb pigs can offer herbs. The new dog breeds possess an auto item pick-up function, which means these pups fetch dropped items.

There are other additions to Mabinogi this month. The new Peaca Dungeon is the most challenging yet and will require players to find monsters’ weaknesses to survive. There are also new books to read and skills to learn. Players will have new arrow tips and bolt tips available for battle. New Pets

Nexon America has announced the addition of pet companions, a dog, two cats, a fox and a wolf, to their free to play MMO, Mabinogi.

Nexon America Inc. is adding a new dimension of game play to Mabinogi with the addition of pets as in-game companions. This exceptionally popular feature supplies players with an exciting new enhancement to Mabinogi’s already massive offering of gaming features.

Players can choose from five new pets: a dog, two cats, a fox and a wolf. Players purchase a pet card through the Nexon Cash Shop and can personalize the pet by naming it. Pets run and attack faster than humans and have skills just like human characters, allowing pets to level up to improve attacks and skills. Each pet has its own distinctive appearance and skill set; a cat might be able to wield powerful magic while a wolf utilizes powerful melee attacks. The benefits of pet ownership, such as extra inventory space and battlefield assistance, truly shine as pets age and grow alongside their owners.

Pets aren’t the only addition to Mabinogi this month. The next update, which is scheduled for June 25, adds five more pets and will feature a new boss monster, dungeon, and the chance for players to learn a high level magic spell, the new Thunder spell. Players able to master this spell will be able to strike multiple monsters at once. Seiren is the latest boss monster in Mabinogi and her glasses and masks are rare items in the fantasy life which can only be obtained through a unique attack. Players should also look out for Fleta, a new roving merchant who sells several unique items.
