Medal of Honor: LE, the BF3 Beta, and You
Since the build up for Battlefield 3 is happening and the Beta is coming up in September, I thought it would be a good idea to ask EA a little about how if you own Medal of Honor: LE, what you should do.
Q1: So with all the recent BF3 Alpha testing news, some are wondering about the upcoming beta. If someone had bought Medal of Honor:LE with the beta invite inside, when would they start hearing about the BF3 Beta?
A1:The Open Beta will start in September. The exact date for when Medal of Honor: Limited Edition players can join the Beta will be announced at a later date.
Q2: Is there anything that those with the Medal of Honor:LE should do in preparation for the beta in September? For instance register their game atwww.ea.comorgunclub.ea.com
A2: If you purchased a copy of Medal of Honor with the Battlefield 3 Beta sticker on it, you are eligible for the Beta. If you have not received the newsletter, make sure you opt in on your EA Profile to receive them. Also, if you haven´t received the newsletter and own a copy of Medal of Honor: Limited edition, you are eligible to play in the beta.* *Not second-hand copies
You can also check out some more questions and answers about the Battlefield 3 Alpha and Beta at theBattlefield Blog
Want to say thanks to @Seeson for taking some time to answer my questions about the Medal of Honor: LE, the BF3 Beta, and You!

That’s right, today is Planet Medal of Honor’s 9th birthday! It’s been a good long 9 years! Today also marks my 2 years with Planet Medal of Honor after Matthew Pruitt, the site’s father, went off to work for EA. And speaking of Matt, it’s his Birthday today too, so if you can, wish him a happy one!
Thanks to all of you who have frequented the site, and I hope this year brings more awesomeness!

Rumor: Frostbite 2 being used for Medal of Honor 2?
Well nothing has officially been said whether or not Danger Close Games is making a second Medal of Honor, a job listing on theEA Jobs Sitemakes reference to the development of a new game, could it be Medal of Honor 2?
Here’s what the job listing says:
Level Designer, Danger Close Team
Danger Close needs fire support. Danger Close Games, an innovative new studio within Electronic Arts, has one goal: make the best shooters in the market. Having recently released the successful reboot of “Medal of Honor,” Danger Close Games is looking for exceptional individuals to fill out its team of world class designers, engineers and artists.
Do you want to be Danger Close?
Position Summary: EA Los Angeles is looking for an experienced Level Designer to work on an unannounced First Person Shooter game with strong multiplayer focus. The Level Designers play a very important role in game development, creating memorable environments and gameplay elements to satisfy an increasing sophisticated and widening games audience. They need to be inventive and understand the design factors that contribute to an entertaining and absorbing gameplay experience. The Level Designer will be working from the overall game design documentation, designing a portion of the game specifying all the possible actions and gameplay events that take place within that level. The Level Designer will also design the level environment, including locations and general layout of the spaces within the level, contributing thoughts about visuals (e. g. lighting, textures, and forms), the characters and objects involved, and specific behaviors associated with the characters and objects.
Responsibilities: •Carry a multiplayer level from the first ideas and pen to paper concepts through playtesting and to the release of one of the largest first person shooter titles of the year. •Work closely with artists to ensure the final product has an equal gameplay and visual qualities. •Utilize cutting edge Frostbite 2 tool set and the collected knowledge of 7000 EA co-workers around the globe to deliver world class multiplayer levels. •Imagine the position of the player and mapping out all the possibilities—logic and flow of events and actions, the conditions that need to be met for certain things to happen, and the gameplay that occurs as a result.
You read right, "Utilize cutting edge Frostbite 2 tool set…"
Could Medal of Honor 2 be using Frostbite 2? Could it be in development so shortly after Medal of Honor came out? Or is Danger Close working on a new title or IP?
We haven’t heard any real Medal of Honor news since before the New Year, so maybe they are.

Medal of Honor Paid DLC? Hot Zone…
A press release from earlier today has got me a bit worried. $10 for one gamemode and 2 maps? Personally, that’s $10 too much for something that should have been in the game already… Here’s the press release:
EA’s Multi-Platinum Hit Medal of Honor Expands with New Multiplayer Maps and Modes
LOS ANGELES, Oct 27, 2010 (BUSINESS WIRE) — Electronic Arts Inc. (NASDAQ:ERTS) today announced that the hit first-person shooter Medal of Honor(TM) will further expand its intense multiplayer experience with the release of an all-new multiplayer mode on November 2, 2010. The new mode called Hot Zone features "King of the Hill" gameplay where teams fight over a designated location on a map; the team who holds their position longest prevails. This adrenaline-fueled mode is playable across two all-new maps (Hindukush Pass and Korengal Outpost) as well as redesigned versions of the popular Shahikot Valley and Helmand Valley multiplayer maps. Hot Zone will be available via Xbox LIVE(TM) Marketplace for 800 MS points, on PlayStation(R)Network for $9.99USD and on PC exclusively via the EA Store(TM) for $9.99USD.
In addition to Hot Zone, EA will also release Clean Sweep on Nov 2 via Xbox LIVE, PSN and PC for free*. First Medal of Honor DLC
EA has announced today that not only did Medal of Honor sell 1.5 million copies in the first 5 days, but that Medal of Honor is getting it’s first Free DLC come November.
Medal of Honor Expands Award-Winning Multiplayer Experience with Free Download Pack
Medal of Honor Sells More Than 1.5 Million Units in First 5 Days
LOS ANGELES–(BUSINESS WIRE)–Electronic Arts Inc. (NASDAQ: ERTS), announced today that Medal of Honor™ has claimed the #1 chart position in the UK according to official GfK-ChartTrack data. In just five days since launching in the U.S. and with just two days of sales in Europe and Asia, the game has already sold through more than 1.5M units. EA also announced that the first-person shooter will expand with the release of an all-new explosive multiplayer mode on November 2, 2010. The free* multiplayer mode titled Clean Sweep is an elimination mode where players must rely on their own skill and teammates’ expertise to prevail as the winning team. This exhilarating mode is playable across two all-new maps (Bagram Hangar and Khyber Caves) as well as redesigned versions of the popular Diwagal Camp and Kabul City Ruins maps. Clean Sweep will be available on November 2 via Xbox LIVE™ Marketplace and PlayStation®Network to owners of Medal of Honor with Online Pass.
Frank Gibeau, President at EA stated, “Medal of Honor is one of EA’s most storied franchises and we’re thrilled to see that fans worldwide have embraced it. In this ultra competitive category, Medal of Honor stands out from the pack. By portraying the Tier 1 Operator as so elite, so tough, Medal of Honor offers a view into a world that has the power to resonate with FPS gamers everywhere.”
Developed by DICE, Medal of Honor multiplayer delivers world-class First Person Shooter action and dedicated server support with all of the same authentic settings, weapons and realistic action depicted in the single-player game. For the first time in its 11-year history, Medal of Honor leaves the WWII theatre and enters the modern setting of war-torn Afghanistan. The game is told through the lens of a small band of fictional characters. Medal of Honor introduces players to the Tier 1 Operator, an elite warrior and relatively unknown instrument of the U.S. Military that operates under the National Command Authority to take on missions no one else can handle.

MoH PC Multiplayer Patch Update
Today it was announced that the PC would recieve it’s first patch, and it has!
Here are the details:
A PC patch for Medal of Honor’s multiplayer is coming today at around 1:30 PST. Check out the fix list below: – Fixed a potential crash when using DirectX9 and switching kits/weapons – When connecting with a non-PunkBuster client to a PunkBuster server, the game would get stuck in “Joining Game…” This has been fixed – Server browser would sometimes remain blank for 60+ seconds after a full refresh. It should now begin displaying results immediately, under any circumstances – Server browser supports multiple game servers running on the same host IP – Server browser bugfixes for “Quick Refresh” operation – Server browser is less prone to shuffling the order of entries – Ping reporting in the server browser is more accurate (in a few cases ping values would get assigned to the wrong server) – Full refresh no longer tracks the first server that arrives in the list – When trying to join a full server, an error message is now displayed informing the user that the server is full – Imported anti-cheat functionality
The update is only for changes to the multiplayer component of Medal of Honor. No single-player changes have been included. In order to update the game, you will need to quit Medal of Honor and load the game again. At that point the auto updater will download the update and apply it for you.
Steam users will need to update via Steam in the usual way.
So remember to restart your game, you also might have to go into the game’s folder ie (win 7 64bit): "C:Program Files (x86)Electronic ArtsMedal of HonorMP" and click on the file "mohmpupdater.exe" and you should be set.

DICE Developer Interview Series – MoH MP Devs
TheBattlefield Bloghas started an interview series over atDICE, the Multiplayer Developers of Medal of Honor, about certain developers history with DICE and game development.
First interview talked with Lars Gustavsson, starting Lead Designer for Medal of Honor:
Since then, you have worked on every major release of Battlefield. What was your initial reaction when you got the assignment to kick off development on the multiplayer mode for Medal of Honor together with Patrick Liu? — I have always followed the series on PC throughout the years — historically as a competitor we wanted to outperform. To get the chance to actually work on it myself was exciting. I started by reading the book "Anaconda: Not a Good Day to Die", to study the environments and what was going on over there.
What did you want to achieve with the multiplayer mode? — I knew that I wanted to take storytelling in the multiplayer mode to the next level. I was thinking "How do we make something that isn’t Battlefield, while still using the experience we have gathered throughout the years?" I wanted to make something different. Read the whole thing here…
The second interview in the series was with Patrick Liu, Multiplayer Producer on Medal of Honor:
Moving on to Medal of Honor, where you are the multiplayer Producer. What does that mean that you do? — I am kind of the guy who points out the main direction and sets the high level vision for the whole experience. I don’t really plan everyone’s schedules or anything, rather I state what we should do, and then the lead designer performs the bulk of that work. I have also been heavily involved as a spokesperson for Medal of Honor [Like when Liu did 70 interviews in two days at our latest press event — Editor’s note]. My role is perhaps above all to bring the best out in my colleagues. To challenge them. So I’m perhaps not the most creative person if you count the number of gampelay ideas I churn out. It’s more the kind of thing where I immediately know a good idea when I see it.
What was that high level vision you set out to achieve? — I knew we got the offer because of our track record with Battlefield. At the same time, I knew we didn’t want to make a Battlefield clone — that would just not make sense. So what could we do instead? Read the whole thing here…
Next interview is with Sebastian Armonioso, Lead Designer of Medal of Honor’s MP:
And after that came Medal of Honor. What did you think when you got the assignment to design the multiplayer for it? — We didn’t want to simply reskin Battlefield and slap on the Medal of Honor logo, that was for sure. At the same time, we wanted to build on our own strengths. So what is it that we can do? Answer: We can build very well-balanced maps with lots of action. I remember thinking: "Can we get closer to Counter-Strike and Quake, while keeping that special DICE touch?"
Medal of Honor is much more focused on infantry than Battlefield. How come? — Partly because this was not supposed to be Battlefield. Partly because the whole theme of Medal of Honor is these small infantry squads that operate in Afghanistan — they simply don’t have a lot of tanks or other vehicles down there. We also thought we had a good approach to the faster kind of infantry battles from working with Battlefield 1943, so we wanted to grab the chance to experiment some more with it, and take it further. Read the whole thing here…
Thanks to Scott over atPlanet Battlefieldfor the heads up on these.
Stay tuned here for more!
